If I upgrade the BES to a later version will my users be able to open XLXS files (office 2007 formats) on their BBs?

Sorta hard to answer since we have no idea what version you're on now... but the answer will likely be Yes.

Office 2007 support was added in BES 4 SP5 (maybe SP6?)

You have no service packs installed at all. So, yes... installing the latest service pack for BES 4.1 will get you Office 2007 support.

And you'll get remote mailbox searches on 5.0 devices, busy time lookup, PIN message from BES...

Thanks Knottyrope for the correction on the remote mail searches...I didn't notice that before I upgraded my Tour to 5.0 for Push To Talk...just confirmed it on an 8830, but alas the user's mailfile wasn't indexed...

Top off with MR8, while you're giving it a go.

Stay with MR7 on SP6 unless you need those specific fixes in MR8.
