The backlight is an odd thing. It seems to sometimes be quick and slower others. Some have mentioned useing the space button or back button instead of the track ball and that makes it recover quicker and I can confirm it does seem to. I don't know if its a glitch or if sleep mode was improved to save battery...but its not a big deal. Just feels weird right now
I have the lag on the backlight too. The screen does come on right a way (can see it under a bright light) but its the back light that has the lag. And it seems to be intermittent.

I get a message that gives me this when im trying to install it.

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
This can occur if your are running Windows in safe
mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly
installed. Contact your suppport personnel for assistance"

Now i know im not in safe mode thats the obvious but maybe just restarting my computer might help or im not sure what else to try to get this installed.
Anyone had this issue?

Nvm I figured out what the problem was which was kinda crazy never knew.
For those whoever might get this problem just follow these steps and should fix it.
Unregister and re-register the Windows Installer

1. Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER, and then click OK. Even if you do this correctly, it may look like nothing occurs.
2. Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then click OK. Even if you do this correctly, it may look like nothing occurs, or you may briefly see an hourglass. After you run this command, the operation is complete.
3. Try your Windows Installer-based application again.

This release is the best release I've used since back in the 4.3 days, in terms of memory stability...very happy so far. :D

just updated my pearl last night, seems to be running slightly smoother... nothing noteworthy to. Sometimes the backlight seems to be a bit delayed, nothing i cant live with so its ok. so far satisfied with the update.

I'm on Sprint. Wiped my BB and installed this after manually removing various apps and enabling my favorite theme (T-Mobile Zen).

Observations:
-Taking 1-3 seconds for screen to light up after pressing trackball
-Battery life is now reduced. I used to scrape through nearly 48 hours on a charge but that's now more like 44 hours or less
-Can send MMS just fine
-Don't receive MMS messages. Have to login to a Sprint site on my phone to get the full message
-Can permanently leave Sprint Navigation loaded / don't have to delete to save space. However, there's definitely still a memory leak with this firmware version. Pulling the battery fixes for a while

How the heck can RIM put such a tiny amount of system memory on these things?!

You have to delete the vendor.xml file as per instructions at top of thread.
I did remove the Vendor.xml file per the instructions and I tried the operation again today with the same result. The version number stays at 4.5.0.77 even though it did some sort of update. Any other suggestions? Thanks for the hint though.

I updated to this OS with no problems encountered. However, I am extremely disappointed that the new OS version did not address the problem that I have: GPS text-to-speech street names and voice prompts getting clipped.

What makes you think that the clipping is an OS issue, as opposed to an issue of the GPS app?

Wondering if there is a bug in this OS, or I just never noticed this before (but that seems unlikely)...when playing a video, as soon as the screen backlight timeout hits (I have it set to the max, 2 minutes) the video is stopped.

Is there a way to keep the video playing - have the video app override the screen backlight timeout setting? Maybe I just haven't played videos in a while, but I thought that there was a way to keep the video playing...

Because when my OS was 4.3 (a long time ago) I did not have any sound clipping problems with amAzeGPS, Nav4All and others. However, I needed to upgrade my OS because of other problems. When I upgraded to 4.5 those other problems disappeared, but the sound clipping problems suddenly materialized. Even when I updated my GPS applications to the latest, 4.5-aware versions I still experienced the sound getting cut off at the end. Garmin, though, does not and never did exhibit this, even with the 4.5 OS. I cannot switch to Garmin, however, because the 7-day trial is over, and Garmin remembers if you tried their trial offer (so one cannot participate in the trial, allow it to lapse then just download and reinstall the application). Also, it isn't free.

My hunch is that the free ones are using the OS API to provide voice commands, whereas those that aren't free code their own voice subroutines.

Wow. My battery life is down A LOT with this release. I noticed it right away. I'd estimate that my battery life is ~65-70 percent of what it was. Everything else seems ok, except I think my pearl locks-up a bit more often than it used to.

MMS functionality is nice, but only works on send. To receive, you still have to go to the website :(
