So how long does it take to download contacts from Gmail nowadays? I setup my Gmail account maybe an hour ago at this point and my contact list is still empty Can I kick start this?

It should happen in a matter of minutes. Even with thousands of contacts you should see *something* right away. You have to enable contacts sync for that account, and IIRC it must be your default email account.

was afraid of that.... I'll try unchecking the box and rechecking it.

My calendar came over just fine.

and that didn't help... hopefully I get my contacts by tomorrow before work

Make sure you do not have a filter set on the BlackBerry address book. Your contacts could be there but not visible because of a filter being activated.
