Default MASS Storage Mode Resets Pofile Settings

Please Login to Remove!

A little annoying feature I just found out about mass storage mode on your BB. I guess nothing can be accessed from the storage card by the OS when it's connected to your computer. That's all fine and dandy and understandable but problem is that when you have MP3 files set on your profile that are on the storage card that is called during an event like an email the profile can't find the MP3 file because mass storage mode is turned on and reverts your profile back to its default setting losing your setting in return.

I get the fact that its just not possible but why not fail over to a default when the file is not available but keep your setting set so when MSM is turned off your profile returns to normal. At least warn people if they pick MP3 files as ring tones that this is going to happen...

Man it took me a week to figure out why mine kept reverting and I only tonight figure it out is when I was watching a movie file on my laptop from the storage card and I got an email with a weird sound... then I put 2 and 2 together....

wow another brilliant boff by RIM software designers....

Here is an even better fix... buffer and store all profile MP3s on the on board storage so this does not happen i only have 3 set and i cont imagine it being that hard to do. nothing like making us do the leg work for your bad coding.. better then an error code I guess but quite the over site.

Yeah, had the same when I loaded music or music vids.
I just rebooted using Quickpull...took care of the problem.

BTW, I load all my music and vids on the media card...never to the device memory.

Yep, found this out the hard way too. However, it seems hit and miss: I have had the odd .mp3 ringtone play while I was hooked up to the PC and in MSM so I am a bit baffled how it can be so.

What I WOULD LIKE (I think you'd like this, Caspan) is the ability to toggle EACH storage media SEPARATELY instead of "all or none". That would allow you to not have the Device Memory in MSM (so you can store your ringtones on there), yet allow your external microSD card to be in MSM so you can transfer files/media via the PC.

After disconnecting, if you want to move files between the two storage mediums, you can use Media|Explore or BBFileScout to do so.
