What do I need to use the 'world phone'?

Can I pick up a specialized SIM at a VZW store?

You should be able to pick up a card at the VZW store. They will need to provision it for world usage which is a higher rate. The Blackberry should pick up the network there automatically.

Does anyone know if this uses my current billing plan with a SIM set for global use and then I get charged a different rate while in the other country? Or is this a SIM AND a new plan all together? I am a bit confused on this...

I was just in Italy, the minute charge for roaming was $1.29 and the e-mail was an international plan at 64.99 per month as apposed to 44.95 for US unlimited, on Verizon.

I ran by the VZW store on my lunch and they informed me I have to goto the Service Store and get the sim card (~$30) and then add the additional international package onto my account (which you can immediately remove when done) which is ~$20 extra/month.

Good info to know! When you activate it, be sure to ask them about the coverage and it your blackberry will pick up the network over their automatically. It should, but better safe than sorry.

He did state it should pick up by itself without problems.
