Sounds like a bona-fide hardware failure. Just in case, backup and reinstall the OS. If that fails to resolve the issue, initiate a warranty repair/replacement through your carrier (assuming you're not using an unlocked 8700).

If it doesn't look like it's been dropped/abused, you should get a working 8700 for no cost though your provider.

Call one of the stores and ask them where you can bring it to, to get fixed

True, stores do not do warranty claims. You need to call the Cingular warranty department at 1-800-801-1101. With no liquid damage and in decent shape they should send you another 8700.

Your original store should be able to provide you with a replacement within a 30day period. Exchange by Mai (1-800-801-1101) is only for replacements after 1 month but before 1 year or insurance claims (which does not cover the BB)

Well, I would recommend talking to it and asking it nicely to come on. Also, burn some aromatherapy candles to help ease its stress.

I had precisely the same problem and Cingular repalced the phone (although it was a hassle). There is a developing thread here - I believe they have a fundamental problem with the screen/display and its connections. No official word yet, but I know several people who have experienced the same problem. Maybe via this Forum, RIM will take heed.

Have you taken it out to dinner? Sometimes that helps.

I'm on the way.

9.95 bought me an hour of internet usage via onboard WiFi thanks to Connexion by Boeing.

I'm somewhere over Canadia now.

Yeah, 8700's are not cheap dates. You really need to take them somewhere nice.

Try another Cingular store to get in replaced if it's only 2 weeks old. I had a Cingular Treo 650 and went thru 3 of them in my first month and each was replaced in store. they can do it just go to one of them that will! tell them CS support on the phone said so since it's within the 30 days!
