Does the steps above work with all operating systems and all models of BB? I have learned of similar steps. It looks like it could help cut down on the questions I would have come time to deal with my own phone.

Default Re: Desktop Manager will not connect/detect my BB

Hey guys,
I am experiencing the same problem with my BB 9780. Recently I installed an app ISPEECH's "DriveSafe.Ly". This was working fine. Until this morning I decided to install another app. After/During the installation, my BB wen't into reboot. Afterwards, the DriveSafe.Ly app started reading all my TEXT messages. Then a the DriveSafe.ly startup screen popped up. Now there are two voices reading my text messages.
So I decided to remove/uninstall the app by pressing MENU then delete. I was prompted to restart the phone, which I did.
After that the problem with the app was gone. But when I went back to the Desktop Software, my phone wasn't recognized anymore. If I go to APPWORLD and try to download something, a popup tells me that there is a problem communicating with the plugin and it has something to do with content protection and I need to disable it. (something like that)
I tried my wife's BB 9780 and she didn't have any problem with the detection and sync.
I read something about removing the IT policy but I'm not sure if its related. And my contacts might be erased. Problem is I can't backup my contacts without the Desktop Software.
Hope someone can help me with this. I would really appreciate it.

Sorry about that, I think I got it solved. I went to Security and wiped out 3rd party apps. and did another restart. It turns out that the app wasn't completely removed.

Add me to the list of people that cannot get DM 6.1 to recognize my BB. This is not my first rodeo with DM/OS/phone upgrades so I would like to think that I'm fairly competent when it comes to this sort of thing.

I've recently upgraded to a 9810 from a 9700 and that's when my issues started. I was able to switch devices and pull all of my data from the 9700 to the 9810 without issue.

Next day, attempt to use DM and it will not recognize my BB. I have done everything and anything listed in the various troubleshooting methods, Completely removed DM, cleaned the registry, etc. and re-installed DM, updated my drivers, etc. You name it and I've tried it. My USB is brand new and I've also tried the one from my last phone without luck.

When connected, my computer is recognizing the Micro SD as the F: drive, the phone it's self as the G: drive, and the phone with PIN is showing up as being connected thru the device manager as well. DM just refuses to acknowledge it. I'm currently on my 5th iteration of removing and re-installing the DM and wiping everything and I'm getting pretty fed up with trying to get this thing to work.

The 9810 is on OS 7.0.0.583 and the DM is version 6.1.0.36 straight off of RIM's website.

At this point I'm just frustrated and pretty much done with trying to get this thing to work until a new DM version is released with a potential fix.

:: late edit :: Another oddity if it helps, Even though the DM will not physically recognize my phone, for troubleshooting purposes, the DM is set to start whenever a device is connected.

If I plug my phone in, the DM will start up, but it still will not connect. It just sits at the connection screen with the "troubleshoot my connection" at the bottom. hmmm

Windows XP, SP3. In all honesty, I'm pretty much past getting that pile of garbage to work. (DM) I'm buying a new system come tax return time since my computer is old, so I'll start fresh with a Windows 7 system.

In the meantime, I can back up my phone thru BB Protect and I can move stuff around between my media card and desktop. I just can't synch with my desktop organizer, which is a slight pain in the ass, but not the end of the world.

Ok, Open up the DM and uncheck start up on detection of a Berry.
Make sure your device is disconnected from the computer.
Open up Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del)
Kill all the processes associated with RIM/BlackBerry, ones like;
RIMBBLaunchAgent.exe*32
BbDevMgr.exe*32
etc...

Check to make sure they have all been killed, then connect your device to the computer and start the DM.

BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.5 to 5.0.1:

Remove the battery from the back of the BlackBerry smartphone.
Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer using a USB cable.
In the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader.
Click Start under the Update Software heading.
The Device Password dialog appears. If the BlackBerry smartphone is password enabled, enter the password. If the BlackBerry smartphone does not have a password, leave this field empty.
Click OK.
If prompted with a list of Available Updates, choose the latest software version by selecting the corresponding check box and then click Next.
Click the Settings button under the Device backup and restore options.
Make sure that the Back up device data automatically during the installation process check box is not selected.
Make sure that the Delete all application data and Erase all currently installed applications check boxes are both selected.
Click OK on the Settings dialog.
Insert the battery into the back of the BlackBerry smartphone.
In the Application Loader wizard, click Next to proceed with the loading process.
When the process is complete, the Application Loader wizard displays the following message: The loading operation was successful.
Insert the memory card, if applicable.
Close the Application Loader wizard.

The concern of push chair application aside, the bigger concern to me is that you seem to let this issue continue and are doing nothing but depending on your users list to trial-and-error its way to a remedy. Except the remedy is not there; there are only affordable guesses to what might perform, and none of the guesses do perform. I cannot see from any of the e-mail paths any details from your assistance personnel. Indeed, it's not even obvious from your website that you have a assistance personnel at all. There is no details, other than an unhelpful type to e-mail to some unspecified personnel with a 24 time transformation. And there is no cellphone assistance. This is not a assistance. It is a harm.

isoconsultantusa, in case you haven't noticed this forum is NOT operated by BlackBerrry/RIM and is only staffed by volunteers who try to help fellow users. You seem to think the manufacturer is ignoring you and you need to learn how to use the Internet to discover where you should direct your anger or annoyance.

That is not to the members and moderators of this privately run forum.

I bet you are fun at parties.....
