I used the utility, but it only took a shot of only part of the screen (see link below for teh screenshot it took). The top and bottom are devoid of content. Any idea why?

As far as I can tell, the screenshot was taken exactly as it should have been. BBscreen can only capture data that is currently displayed on the screen.

BBScreen is great. I use a Sprint CDMA 7250. I needed to upgrade the OS to 4.0.2 to get BBScreen to work. Atleast I am on their EV-DO network now.

I have been using another BlackBerry screenshot tool besides the simulators and BBScreen. It's by Idokorro. This piece of software allows you to project your BlackBerry to your computer screen (and then to a projector if needed).

Great for demoing use of BlackBerry.

www.idokorro.com/downloads/BBViewer.exe

FYI. Idokorro is making this available for free. It seems to work quite well if a bit slowly but it certainly beats people crowding around one BB. Just to set expectations, the viewer may miss some of your actions on the BB but will catch the next one so try again. Do not call Idokorro for support. This falls into the "it is what it is" category.

BBViewer is sweet! Never heard of it before, but I like it. Thanks for sharing the info.

First thing I though when running BBViewer was that it just seemed like an automated JavaLoader taking screenshots over and over. I opened the install directory and sure enough JavaLoader was right there. This explains why BBViewer might miss something if you move too fast. The big advantage is that you have a nice interface to view the screen and you only have to enter the device password once if applicable.

Default Good Find

Good Find.

Good Show.

Really good utility for exactly what you suggested, instead of having a few people crowding over your shoulder i tapped it into my laptop which was hooked to a projector and wow, Aces.

Looks like this isn't available any longer from their site. I emailed them asking if they could provide it to me, but I'm wondering if they will convert it to a handy dandy utility that you have to pay for now.

---EDIT---
Hah! I knew it:

Hi Rob,

Thank you for your interest in Idokorro BlackBerry Viewer.

In order to help us understand the market for BlackBerry Viewer, and to assist us in developing it into a commercial product we would appreciate if you could complete the following survey. The download link will appear after the survey is completed:

(link removed)

Please be aware this is just a trial version of the BlackBerry Viewer and it will expire February 1st, 2007. It is not a commercial sales item.

If you need any further assistance please let me know.

Best Regards,

Jenny
I realize that Idokorro is out to make money, but wow - can't you release just one tool that you dont' have to pay for? That would attract new business for sure.

Just another reason to develop something independently IMHO.

Rob

BTW, the BBScreen utility is friggin awesome! I snagged some backgrounds from my T-Mobile test 8700 and downloaded them to my Cingular device.

Thanks again Jibi.

The file that the link pointed to was time bombed. I just launched it and was told the license is expired. Contact [email address] to obtain a new version.

What does BBscreen.exe do to my PC?

  1. BBscreen.exe extracts three files to a temp directory.
    • BBscreen.bat
    • BBscreen.exe
    • choice.com
  2. BBscreen is launched from the temp directory.
  3. A screenshot is captured and saved to the current users desktop. The file name will have the following format: BBscreen-%UserID%-%Picture#%.bmp.
  4. You are prompted to take another screenshot.
    • If Yes, the next file name will be incremented by 1. Goto step 2.
    • If No, BBscreen exits and the temp folder is deleted. Only thing left behind is the self-extracting executable.

Default Thank you!

Thanks very much for developing this application. It works great with my 8700g.

I'm asking the folks at Idokorro about their "BBViewer" - that would probably be a little easer when I'm making Video Tutorials for BlackBerry users.

Best regards,
Martin

BBViewer will definatlly be better for video tutorials. Basically, BBViewer is using JavaLoader to grab repeated screenshots and displaying them in a common location. I have noticed a couple of side effects to this:
  1. The handheld slows down from the multiple screenshots.
  2. The image BBViewer displays is choppy and can miss things if you move too quickly on the handheld.

The response I've heard from Idokorro is that they are awaiting RIM's release of the API which will allow them to truly perform a capture without the hesitation in the keystroke capture process.

Repeated screenshots - cheeky solution, but it works (mostly)!

-Edit

What I'd like to see is a screenshot utility that you can run through a remote connection (or even a remote control of sorts from PC to BB).

That would be an awesome tool! I am hoping that RIM will release this one as part of an update to BES.

Default BBscreen Updated to Version 1.1

There is now an updated version of BBscreen! The handheld password can now be entered once instead of each time a screen shot is taken.

Default another screenshot tool....

Hello,
I was looking for a screenshot tool some time ago and did not find one.
Therefore I have created my own one. (not to blame the other cool script found in that thread)
It's a small GUI that let's you take a screenshot and safe it in 3 different formats, autonumber filenames, resize, add frames, review the screenshots and copy them to the clipboard.
You can find a screenshot attached
If you like it please contact me and you will get the download link.

Regards
Michael

Now if I could just find a screenshot utility that I could take screenshots of the screenshot utility...

Just kidding.

Looks great - I'll be sure to try it out!
