so when i go out barhopping, i usually swap the sim card from my pda to my razr

(i dont want to risk losing an expensive PDA)

i now have a BlackBerry and i turn the device off and pop out the battery to remove the sim card just as I did with my Treo 650.

except now when i want to put in the sim card back into the BB, the device resets itself even though the power is off (remove battery/insert SIM and BB resets)

any way to avoid that...a setting i missed?

or am i basically SOL b/c the device is wired to reboot if the battery is removed/replaced?

The BB's do a full reboot/reset when the battery is removed. Do not believe there is a way aroung it.

just out of curiosity, what's the big deal if your unit reboots itself? it doesn't lose any data or anything. Yeah, it's kinda inconvenient to wait a few minutes for it to boot back up, but it's not like anything changes from the time you remove your battery to the time you replace it.

If it's anything like mine, it can take up to 20 minutes before it's ready for use after a "reboot"...

20 minutes? That's insane. Mine takes about 3 to 5 minutes.

20 mins is long. my old 7520 took longer to reboot then my 7100i.

A couple of hours ago, I had a theme that I uninstalled. Why or why did I do that? Just could not leave well alone...

Now, my Blackberry won't come on to the menu! And, of course, I've removed the battery, and 1 hour later, we're still waiting - white screen, with hour glass! Darn it, what gives?

if you have the bb plugged in to a charger, it will not require a reboot

My 7130c reboots in less than 2 minutes. If you're having 20 minute reboots, something is seriously wrong.

...after 30 minutes on the phone with T-Mobile, and talking directly with RIM, ths issue was EBKAC!

Apparently, on the 7100t, you must NOT ever take the battery out without turning the device off first. If you do, when you boot it back up you will get the white screen with a constant spinning hour glass. Funny thing is, T-Mobile told me to take the battery out like this...

Anyway, as per RIM, directly, all ok now. I've even tested it, powered a unit on, then off, removed the battery, put the battery back in the device, powered it on, and within 2 minutes it was at the menu screen...

Thank God for that!

I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. I have the 7100t and I remove the battery without turning the device off and it has caused no ill effects.

Perhaps that is a bug that RIM knows about and has a workaround for? That would explain why TMO told you it's okay to do it and RIM said not to

I have a 7105t and it works that way. I can't speak for any other models.
