Default Texas Board of Education

So what do you think about the state Board of Education and their recent work on the curriculum? You can read about it in mainstream media just about anywhere. I've been following through this website: Texas Freedom Network

Here's just one example of a post: The List of Shame in Texas « Texas Freedom Network

I think it's frightening. Was it Rep. Moynihan who said, "Youxxx8217;re entitled to your own opinions. Youxxx8217;re not entitled to your own facts." That's the problem in a nutshell for me: these quacks are trying to publish their own facts.

The impact that those idiots can have on national education is significant, and their idiocy needs to be exposed for what it is. More actions like this and the USA will become a nation of burger flippers.

Obama's plan will shift responsibility more towards local districts

So it will be local idiots instead of state level idiots. Makes sense to me.

Part of the issue ultimately revolves around the economics of textbook publishing. A state like Texas is sufficiently large as a market that publishers cater to their whims -- and thus influence the rest of the country a well.

There will be a backlash. It's already started. Check this out:

I used to wonder if Faith (as some of the nutjobs use it) means you don't have to turn on or use your brain. One day I realized that it meant you were not supposed to use your brain and a lot of stuff made a lot more sense.

I am truly sorry for some of the homegrown idiots here in Texas.

In the end it is all about money and power, and who has it.

This. People get exploited all the time. Although some religious leaders are honest and forthright, others are no better than snake oil salesmen. It is difficult for anyone to tell those people apart at times. Throw in the fact that many people first seek out religion during times of crisis, and that many others just want answers handed to them on a plate (no thinking, please), and you have a situation that is ripe for all sorts of abuse.

Problem is the snake oil salesmen and women are trying to make the world safe for scams by convincing people that stupidity is the only logical option.

An excellent find mriff. It's about time we see some intelligent discussion reflecting true conservative principles.

Indeed. The root of conservatism is "conserve." That certainly hasn't been the case lately.

Well Don, you are a dumb moron. So that's pretty easy.

Well, you have probably noticed in the national press that the Texas SBOE passed the controversial new standards for social studies. But before passing, Cynthia Dunbar offered up an interesting prayer.
