doesn't it blink red consistently when you receive an IM if you're not in the program? i could be using the browser and it'll start blinking red if someone IMs me. it won't stop blinking until i read the IM

Go click on your shortcut button on the left side of your bb, then advance, select the profile that you would like to edit, and then look for jivetalk, then edit.

keep in mind that if you do that, it will play the tone or vibrate EVERY TIME you receive a message, while in that profile... even if you've got jivetalk as the in-focus application.

No, anfrey, with JiveTalk you can set your Profiles for JiveTalk for different notifications for "New IM While Idle" and another for New IM While Active" so you don't get notifications while in the program. Likewise, within JiveTalk you can set the Preferences for a Popup Alert in Background Mode.

I tried installing the 4.2 version today on my 8830 (VZW) and it said that it was not designed for my handheld...is this just me or should the program not install on the device?

Thanks,
Erik

JT should work fine on the 8830 or any of the new models.

What OS version and platform are you running on your 8830? Is it an early beta?

How did you install? Desktop or OTA?

Release version phone. I believe the phone is 4.2, at least that's what mine says. I tried desktop install. I used the pearl version of the program (4.2).

I am uninstalling and reinstalling BB Manager, maybe that will do it.

It's the right build, maybe it's the desktop manager like you mentioned.

Try downloading OTA, should be easier.

You can also check your OS and platform version by going to Options > About, should be like 4.2.2.xxx and Platform 3.0.0.45, or something like that

Smile Personalized Ringtones

Now that 0.91 is out and we all have , I have been gushing to others about how cool Jivetalk is. While doing this a series of IMs flooded in and I wasn't sure if each one that came in was from an important person or not and whether I should reach for the Blackberry or not. So I said to myself, " Self, why can't each of my AIM buddies have a customized ringtone, just like the Blackberry phone numbers? Why can't each screename I log on with have a seperate ringtone too?" So I now turn to Kyububba and ask if this is too late to go into 0.92. It would raise Jivetalk to that next level of coolness.

You get sound alert, and pop up alert if run in background mode. Why don't you try it out?

Emailed support, they weren't able to help.. They tried having me set up manual direct=socket and http with no luck.. I wanted to see if anyone else is having the same problems.

Running 4.2.1.85 Platform 2.3.0.67 on a 8700 with Cingular.

We do not have MDS running on the BES, running the autoconfig: I get "The application JiveTalk $2dBlackberry$2dpearl has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy.

We did attempt to set direct=http or direct=socket and it didn't help. I did reset the firewall parameters and it didn't work either. Backing off to .62 seems to work fine. The split tunneling stuff I think has to do with, it doesn't like socket or communication while doing any kind of BES communication from the same app, to ward off nasty proxy applications.. However, I'm pretty sure we don't have that policy inforced on the BES.

The autonetwork configure fails on all 6 items with .90.. In .62 it only tests for 4, and the socket and http are OK, BES fails..

JT, can you guys try testing for socket and http before bes, in the next beta release and see if it helps? Maybe the BES connectivity attempts aren't gracefully stopped before the BIS testing? In the mean time i'm back on .62.

Wow.. I did not know 0.91 is out. I thought kyububba always sends out notification regarding a new version is out. I guess it is unnecessary because it is a public beta now?

Three of us here and nobody received an email. I only learned of .91 because I happened to check these forums first thing in the morning. After I downloaded it I asked the others about the email and nobody else got one either.

Default Exits with-out notice

New problem for me since the release of the 9 series is that the problem exits with-out notice.

Yes, we did not send out emails for this build. Since we're now in open beta, we'll be posting new build notices on this thread and on our website. Also, you can always check for new builds from About JiveTalk.

I hope this is not an indication of how the early beta testers will be remembered once JiveTalk is final. Many of us have been using it since the early teen versions.

I was running version 0.90 and when I found out version 0.91 was available from reading this forum, I went to About JiveTalk and it stated latest version was "n/a".

It's 4.2.2.66 Platform 3.0.0.45

I tried with the newer Desktop manager and no luck.

OTA worked though, thank you!
