I am not suggesting the owner's of this forum penalize anyone who took those steps, but it is obvious from the threads created, most of the newbies never tried the search, or like your example of 300-500 results, just gave up trying to find the answer and started another one hoping for a quick answer.

I didn't think you were suggesting that, but I guess I'd consider limiting a new user's ability to post or start threads penalizing them. It may be tempting to do so, but I think the risk is run that more knowledgeable users wouldn't bother with the site if they were restricted, and that'd be a loss for everyone. I've got two good BB books sitting on my desk and about 15 sites bookmarked but this is the place I refer to consistently because of the community. I don't think the site will be as helpful if it isn't as open as it is now.
