A viable replacement. I own a license of Message Alerts from Apptix/Webmessenger, and I must say hands down this works the same if not better. Plus in the future you will be able to use AMX along side and within IMX/TMX. This was told to me by RexWireless yester-evening. So I would say that if you are a Rex junkie like we are, AMX would be a good replacement for Message Alerts and in the future a replacement for those using B&W List/iCall Manager as they will try to make a push to implement call blocking. And I got the latter confirmed but no dates yet.

Pricing, not sure yet. I would hope that current customers get a discount (most likely) and availability, whenever we are done testing

You're right, future versions. As for availability folks, see AlertMatrix Downoad - BlackBerry Professional Alert Management Software

I downloaded the trial of AlertMatrix earlier today, and so far, it seems like something that I would want to use.

That said, I have several issues that I perceive to be shortcomings in the software. I use my Blackberry as a pager for work - and callouts can come at any time, 24 x 7. I must respond within 15 minutes of the initial page. So far, so good - that appears to be exactly the type of situation AlertMatrix was designed to address. My issues (so far, after about 15 minutes) are:

I need a LOUD ringtone alert, especially during the night when I may be sleeping. I have such a ringtone, but it appears that I cannot use alert tones other than those included in the product. I need an option to use a custom ringtone (from outside the product) when setting up Alerts in the Alerts Management function.

The paging alerts (SMS) can come from any of about 5 different numbers. It is totally random, using which ever server is available in my company's environment to which the request for call out is sent. I currently have those five numbers in an address book entry on my Blackberry. Unfortunately, the Rules Management will not allow me to create a single rule using the address book as the SENDER. As a result, I have five rules to do the same thing - each for a different phone number.

As I said, at this point, AlertMatrix certainly does appear to be something that I would use, and happily pay for (though $35 seems a bit steep), provided there are workarounds for the above listed issues.

AlertMatrix places all Alert profiles as entries inside BlackBerry Profiles as well. So the tones inside AlertMatrix only augment the standard assortment of BlackBerry tones and don't need to be used at all... you can use all standard BlackBerry tones or download your own mp3's.

The primary purpose of the AlertMatrix tones is to give you an option of a tone that will always work, even if you set the BlackBerry to the "Off" profile.

If you want loud and long, AlertMatrix can use a long musical tone in BlackBerry Profiles and then repeat it forever.

Thanks,

Thanks, REXguys... I just had an email 'conversation' with Bob from REXwireless support... basically he explained the same thing to me, and I was headed back here to update my note when I saw that you had already done so.

Think about the $35 being an investment and then one day that investment will be able to hook into their other products. I think it would be worth it my friend!

How does one use the Profiles Alerts? I have set all my profiles alerts as I desired for each profile, but it always uses the "override" tone. Now admittedly I set those override tones before I was aware of the Profiles entries, but now I am not sure how to set those override sounds back so that the Profiles ones are used instead.

e.g., I have the E-mail Alert Tone currently at BlipBlip, volume at low, vibe setting at short, and LED activation at Yellow. When a new email comes in meeting the Rules criteria, the tone sounded is BlipBlip. But my profile for E-mails might be set for Notifier_Lightspeed. How do I "get out of" the override and use the Profile sounds and settings?

Default Love the app, but have some questions

Hey Rex guys - I use / love TodoMatrix and IdeaMatrix. Really could not be happier with those applications and really appreciate the great work your team does.

I took your AlertMatrix for a spin and have some questions. I'm currently using Message Alerts (Webmessenger) and love that app too. Much of what you offer I get out of MA (I think). But additionally, I heavily use their Delete feature, Spam Filter, Email Alerts (much like yours but has more selectable options and many more disposition actions), and their phone alerts. I also have some unique things in there that will delete work originated emails from only my BB from 7pm to 6am, as well as a few that automatically forwards emails to my new email from my old email accounts. Lots of flexibility IMHO.

Are you headed in the same direction with AlertMatrix and are you intending to do the same (or maybe more) than what I'm currently experiencing with MA? Or is your intent much different?

Thanks for the great work, guys!

Update: I think I may have figured it out. I set the volume to mute and vibration to none. That *should* allow the settings in the profile to prevail.

While that does seem like a no-brainer, I was set to the Vibrate profile, with no tone sound in Profiles. The AlertMatrix "override" was making a sound and my Profile was not (DUH!), hence I was overriding my profile notifications. Now, neither makes a sound (which is good, since I am using Vibrate), so when I switch my profile to Normal, it should work as I expect now (since I set AlertMatrix's internal tone to mute and vibrate to none).

Can't say specifically what we will add to the product over the longer-term, but our general business strategy is be the high-end product of any segment where we compete, so enhancements will be coming.

The chief differentiators of AlertMatrix today are:

1) Alert Control Environment (ACE) subsystem (priority awareness)

Because of ACE, AlertMatrix is priority aware - ACE has the ability to be in the middle of firing a lower priority notification every ten minutes on a forever cycle (until the user notices it), but then, upon receiving a critical high priority e-mail, retreiving and re-queue the lower priority notification and replacing it with the high priority one instead (loud and every minute perhaps). When the high-priority is dismissed or snoozed, the next alert on queue pops up.

2) Delay*All Plus

Our Delay*All subsystem is also priority aware. The AlertMatrix user can delay all notifications for 2 hours that are low, medium, and high priority, but still allow the critical ones to come through. We believe this is a critical piece of real-world-needed functionality.

3) Preview + Action Windows

We offer the ability to open an e-mail or call from the alert window and act on it right on the spot. This helps with workflow and makes using AlertMatrix a natural part of the day.

There are more of course. We support for BlackBerry Profiles AND the ability to augment / override BlackBerry Profiles when you want. We separate rules from alerts, which makes it much easier to manage a lot of rules since the alert settings do not have to be recreated each time. We offer nice event logs that make finding that important note easy and quick. We have very flexible (in our opinion, real-world required) snoozing.

But you are 100% right - we are not today in the "automation based on incoming message" arena - AlertMatrix current does not do the robotic automated deletes and forwards, nor do we have designs on fighting spam, which is a really big arena and hard to be best in without a single-minded focus.

Lastly, we definately do have designs on integrating AlertMatrix to ToDoMatrix and IdeaMatrix as the three together are highly-complimentary.

Hope this helps,

--the REXguys--

Hi RexGuys -

Thanks for that great explanation - I also appreciate the phone calls to discuss. Another unique example of a company going beyond the call of duty to work with an already very satisfied customer. You continue to set the bar high!

I can see that AM could be better than MA in some respects. I'm going to continue to kick the tires on AM and weight the possibly of using both. I will say that I can appreciate AM's integrated and "act on it now" approach. MA is passive and requires a few extra steps to do the same thing.

Thanks!
Doug

AlertMatrix for BlackBerry 4.0 / 4.1 support will be available this summer but is still a number of weeks away. Right now, AlertMatrix is 4.2 and above.

Thanks,
