Progress update 4 - The Voyage Home
Testing user moves today has revealed that I can move BB users from one of the two Exchange 5.5 servers to Exchange 2003 OK, but not from the other one. From the problematic Exchange 5.5 Server everything looks OK in BES, after running (HandheldCleanup -U) and the device can look up names against the Global Address List but nothing wireless works against the mailbox.
The Application log on the BES shows errors for the user like:
MAPIMailbox::GetNewMessages - GetContentsTable (0x80070005) failed
and
MAPIMailbox::GetNewMAPIMessage - CreateMessage (0x80070005) failed
Given that emails sent from the device initially tick and after a few seconds red cross I'm thinking Exchange is having a trouble locating/accessing the mailbox after moving from this particular Exchange 5.5 server to Exchange 2003.
I've tried leaving it for 2 hours incase Exchange needed to synchronise the move but the BB didn't come to life. (The mailboxes were working fine from Outlook though while the BB counldn't send/receive).
I tried a Reload User and a wireless activation from BES, but these didn't fix it either as BES still thinks the user is up and running OK complete with updated dates and times for Last Sent Time for emails that didn't send!
The only way to bring such a users BB back to life after moving to Exchange 2003 is to remove them from the BES and manually reconnect through the Desktop Manager / USB cable.
It's only 10 users though so I'd rather that than all 47.
I think I'm ready to sign this project off as complete, BES upgrade wise anyway, so thanks for all your help. I'll keep an eye on this place in case I can help anyone else who's upgrading from ancient hardware/software in future!
