I am waiting to jump over to the sprint side of the house if they get something good in the near future. Maybe some version of the Pearl.

Might have an issue though.... some cellphone Nazi generated a new "policy" here. So i may have to ride out my contract and then take a Cingular BB.

Got to love that!

I felt the same way about the 7100i. It was the greatest phone ever to me since I was upgrading from a work-issued BB 6250. But the slow OS and S L O W internet coupled w/ the expensive data and voice plans just tired me of it. I made the switch to the 8100 and TMO and haven't looked back.

Well, no surprise here but a new OS has been released for the 8700 on T-Mobile. A device released AFTER the 7100i. Just great.

I love this phone (could be a little thinner, better battery longevity, and the network is painfully slow) but an OS update would be nice. Some of the little quirks are getting to be major annoyances that further highlight some of the problems I listed above.

Nextel/Telus... Let's go!

I was on with BB Support yesterday and had a very knowledgable tech. She said they are getting dozens of calls per day about a firmware upgrade for the 7100i and their tech support folks say there is no such thing coming down the pipe. She did tell me that they are field testing a Sprint Blackberry (using Sprint data and voice networks) but uses the Nextel iDen for Direct Connect walkie talkie function. Allegedly much faster data connectivity, but allows you to maintain Nextel DC functionality. Supposedly currently in just a few markets nationwide.

I hope it's 8100 based, but I gotta say I don't believe they're going to come out with a hybrid BB.

see all this merger stuff there doing is driving me nuts. Are they going to make hybrid phones or what. Sprints future is very unstable especially since Mr Donahue has retired. If nextel didnt have PTT service I would have left it a long time ago.

Sprint's QChat is supposed to be compatible with the older iDEN network. It's possible that they're internally testing that service (which is supposed to be deployed sometime late 2007, early 2008).

First off I would like to say that I have been reading this forum for some time just never posted anything. I called Nextel about not getting text messaging on one of the three blackberries I have and also the extreme delay on the some messages. Without ever asking about software she told me that the new software that is to be out in the next two weeks will fix the text messaging problems I am having. So there might be hope after all.

I once called nextel about text messaging problems...

Heres what she told me:

"Texting service will be down until mid october (I called late September), but if you take out your battery 3 times for 30 seconds each, it will magically work again!"

I was baffled.

I spoke with Nextel / Sprint Blackberry support level 3 today. And while waiting on some programing updates we started BS ing and I asked about the Perl coming to Nextel for release. He said in no uncertain terms "I'm waiting with baited breath" He was unoffically told Oct-Dec release for the holiday season. So take it for what its worth -

Basically what i meant to say when i posted what one of the bb reps told me for nextel, is that they don't know ANYTHING and are full of crap most of the time... There might be some knowledgable ones out there, but that's very rare that you come across and talk to one of those.

God they make me mad... If my work didnt pay for my service i'd be with Cingular still and be getting the 8100 yet again. But its just not worth it paying 80 bux a month when i'm getting it for free at work. Such a crappy phone with such potential, the 7100i is.

I'm just curious. Is the 7100i the only BB that doesnt do real ringtones? Does the 7100t from T-mobile do mp3/wav tones? (curious cause I'm thinking of getting one)

How Bad does that suck? Freakin Nextel has 2 "smart phones" and neither do things their "regular phones" can do.

Thumbs down For those with Nextel 7100i Blackberrys

I think you guys are just waisting your time waiting on an update for the
7100i, I don't look for you guys to get an update. I had the 7100i for 2 months and I realized how bad the phone sucked.... Sorry for those of you who like it... but the phone COULD have ALOT of potential but DOESN'T thats why I switched to the i870 smartest move I made so far... sold my 7100i today for 2 hundred bucks. It's kind of sad that BOTH of Nextels "smartphones" both well... SUCK. It's pretty bad when even one of nextels cheapest and or FREE phones support "REAL" tones and the 7100i Doesnt... and my god without a 2-year contract its retailed at $349.00 and the other is one hundred dollars more! I'm glad I got rid of my BB I have had my i870 for almost a week (a week Sunday) and I absoultly LOVE it!

There are actually 3 NEXTEL smartphones...the i930 is a WM 2003-based phone.
