Question Ping Application Available?

Please Login to Remove!

Is there any "ping application" or BlackBerry built-in function available that can ping an IP address?

Is there an app that ties in both ping and port scan monitoring with alerting functions?

So you basically want a mini version of Nagios on your device? I assume that's what you're trying to say, you want to monitor a port for it's availability (SSH, HTTP, etc.) and alert you if it goes offline. That's what we run Nagios on a generic Linux box for, mine emails me once a critical threshold is reached.... I'm not sure why you'd want your device to be doing all this work.

Just seeing if its in the realm of reality. Though at this point, it doesn't matter anymore.

Oh I completely think it's within the realm of reality - all you would need is a J2ME coder to cook it up for you, I don't see any reason that it couldn't be done technically. The only limitation is that not all ports are open in BIS, you could only monitor a set of standard ones. (so if you moved your SSH to port 321 I think you'd need to use TCPIP/Wifi/BES, e.g.)

See this post from Paul @ Rove Mobile regarding the BIS ports:

A fully featured Nagios might be a nice gimmick
