Default BB software deployment

Please Login to Remove!

Hello!

I need to deploy BB software by means of distributing CD's on Windows platform. Basically, what is needed is to
a) programmatically detect that a BB device is connected to the desktop computer;
b) detect the model of the device;
c) automatically install the software which matches the BB device.

I hope their exist suitable API's for DesktopManager to perform these tasks. Unf., I failed to find any documentation...

Please could someone point me to relevant docs, or, maybe, confirm that these API's are not available for 3rd party developers?

interesting idea, i'd be interested in the same. it'd ease deployment and make things a lot easier for our non-tech-savy users.

Right now, I use two methods: the blackberry desktop software and OTA installations.
For you, it'd be easiest to tell your users to insert the CD, and guide them through the installation with BB desktop software (its easy)

I am pretty sure the c++ api for desktop manager will NOT let you do this.
With the JDE you have javaloader.exe - this can provide you all the device information that you need. The CMD util will return data to the standard output, you should be able to capture it etc....

Also there is webloader - activex control, generally use for web deployment but should work from cd. This will require the setup of jads for each of your versions, but could work & it is all just javascript !

RIM released a web deployment tool,

ww.blackberry.com/developers/downloads/webloader/index.shtml

you could use this on a webserver that you have, and just distribute urls instead.

or make a cd, although it seems a waste of cd's, with simply a link file on it, to be double clicked and the browser opens up at your web loader for your app.

Thanks for pointing to the Web Loader!

"Release Notes.pdf" mentions "BlackBerry Application Web Loader Developer Guide". Does anybody manage to find it?
