I have been tasked with an upgrade/new deployment. Problem is that I have very little experience with BES. So here is the scenario. Currently in our environment we have one BES 4.0 server that acts as the database server as well as the BES / MDS server. This current server has 1300 users. I have been tasked with setting up a "new" environment, as we plan on having around 3000 users.
So far here is my plan, if any guru's can give me some feed back or advice that would be awesome.
First, I want to create a new database server. My idea is to create an Active/Passive SQL cluster so the the management database is highly available.
Second, move the current BESMGMT database that resides on our current BES server to the new dedicated database server.
Third, bring up an additional 2 BES servers to handle the current load, as well as the expected growth. This would bring the amount of BES servers to 3.
Fourth, setup an additional server to keep in standby should one of the 3 active BES servers go down.
So that is currently the plan that I have working in my head, any thoughts?
It sounds good to me. as long as all 4 BES servers have a nice fast connection to the SQL server and the Exchange servers then that is a good configuration.
Awesome news! I have another question along these same lines. The current BES server in our environment is running BES 4.0. I'm assuming that before I do anything to move the database to another server, or to add new servers to the environment, I should probably upgrade the BES 4.0 server to BES 4.1.
Is this a tricky task or just a simple patch like upgrade?
If you know what you want it is easy. If you donxxx8217;t need mdss then it is easy. The install of mdss is tricky but can be done. If you donxxx8217;t need it then I would not install it. Remember mds is different then mdss.
