ok, this may seem like a "well, DUH" solution, but it took me a few weeks to figure it out.
My blackberry is a hand-me-down from my husband (I know the model number in the profile isn't right, I just stuck a number in the box) and it is 4 to 4 and a half years old. A few months ago it started doing random reboots and when it booted back up it would have little to no battery power left and after a couple of weeks it wouldn't even boot back up unless I plugged it up. I noticed that it would reboot when I used the internet or the camera, or anything that used a lot of battery power but it would never do it if it was on the charger. I took a close look at the battery after i figured out that it was probably the reason for the reboots and it was swollen. I knew that it couldn't be safe at that point so I got a new one. It's been 3 or 4 weeks now with no reboots or any other problems.
A new battery probably won't help a newer phone with a software bug, but an older phone with power issues would probably benefit from a new battery. I got mine from Batteries Plus for about $45 (USD).
