Default emails displayed in "reverse" order

Please Login to Remove!

I've never seen this before, and so far any/all google attempts haven't dug anything up as well.

I have an EU who is saying the emails on his BB device are being displayed in reverse chronological order, i.e. the olders emails are now on top and the new ones you have to scroll all the way down to bottom to view.

The EU has an 8330 Curve (Verizon). I don't believe it's a server issue as no one else has reported this issue. I've tried testing by reversing the order of the emails in my outlook inbox (newest on the bottom) but that hasn't propagated over to my device (also an 8330). Checked both message options and main options but can't find anything obvious their either. We are using Office 2003, and the EU's BB device has 4.3 installed on it.

Anyone seen this one before and could possibly offer up a suggestion?

Thanks,

Jim

Never seen this myself. What troubleshooting steps have you taken? I believe a battery pull will fix this.

yeah, it's kinda stumped the band here...

As far as troubleshootings steps, none really. I searched my device to see if there was a setting, and as I indicated, I reversed the order of the emails in my outlook account to see if, once the device reconciled, they would then reverse their order on the device, but that hasn't happened.

We'll have him reseat the battery and see what happens there.

There's no way to change the format in which messages show, AFAIK. It's always been the most recent message at the top.

I am pretty sure the date is off on the device. It is probably set to something in 2007. Have the user set the correct date and messages will appear as they should.

Good luck and let us know!

Thanks much. I fwd that on over but the EU decided to disappear, so hopefully I'll get an update at some point - which I'll def. post here for the curious.

Thatzmister2u is probably right. Whenever my users moan that the BB is messing up the date of their msgs, they usually have the wrong date set. BB stamps the messages and sorts them as it receives them, not by the outlook received date time. So once the clock on the BB is out, the message order is out.

Resetting date/time will stop future messages going into random orders, but it won't fix what is already on the device...

(Moved to BES Admin Corner as it sounds like you are running a BES. Please let me know if not!)

Definitely wrong date on the device. I would set the time source to network, then it gets synced every time you have connection to a network.

Thanks everyone (and yep, we're running BES. I'll make sure to use this forum for any future posts).

No real update to relay unfortunately, as the EU decided not to respond to repeated requests for one. Too bad as if it actually was some sort of weird device/BES issue, it would have been interesting to troubleshoot.

As this particular EU has a tendancy to mess with things he probably shouldn't be messing with (and who here, if you've worked in any sort of Support endeavor, hasn't had one of those fun types to deal with), it's most likely a case of user error.

If I ever do get any closure on this, I'll def. post it.

Thanks again to all for your time and replies. This forum is such a great resource!

I have several users like that. With most of them, when they stop responding, it means I gave them the fix and they are just too rude to confirm

yeppers. So I finally was able to corral the user and in case anyone still cares...

It turned out to be not some new, undiscovered issue (darn, kinda hoping I'd stumbled onto some never before seen issue - maybe it would be named after me like in the scientific community), but rather when the user went into messages, the "cursor" (for lack of a better word) would be on an email way down at the bottom (emails were sorted newest at the top, oldest at the bottom) and he didn't know how to hit the "up arrow" + "T" keys to get it up to the top w/out having to scroll manually.

lordy.

"T" and "U" are your friend. "T" goes to the top of your e-mail list, "U" to the first unread mail.
