Default Sync GAL with Blackberry (BES)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone,

I am new to the Blackberry and BES world, but now I am the new BES admin. The previous admin did not incorporate any GAL functionality into our BES Server, so in order to e mail an individual in our office out of the address book, you have to manually add them to your local contacts.

Is there a way to Sync the GAL with my BES so that all Blackberry users have full access to company email addresses and phone numbers without the manual input?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Why not use GAL lookup which is designed to address this? Just type part of the person's name in the to field and let it do its thing.

When I go to my address book and type in a users name for lookup, it only shows those people who I have manually input into my address book, not all the users from the GAL. Is there something I might be doing wrong here? Thanks!

You perform the lookup when you are composing a new message. So when you are in composition mode. Type part of name. Then you should see a option to look up. The blackberry will contact your BES and find any names that contain those letters. The names will show up on your blackberry and you can pick one.

Great, thanks Jberg! That worked

Is it possible to make this work for phone extensions though? The main reason I was trying to sync the GAL was because I have my phones forwarded from work to my cell and unless I put every user in my address book with their extension, I will not see their name when they call.

As I am sure you can understand, this is a major inconvenience having to constantly be on top of this process.

Any ideas here? Thanks again for the GAL lookup, that will help me greatly!
