Default Reformatting Media Card

Please Login to Remove!

I was wondering if someone could tell me how to reformat your microSD card. I've searched through the FAQ's and no luck. Thx in advanced.

Insert the card in your device. Go to Options >Media Card. Hit the menu key and select "Format Card."

Fast Reply! Geez, pretty stupid of me not to look through that. Thanks a bunch!

Edit: Argh. I did what you said and it gave me a message saying "A Media Card has been inserted that is not formatted. Please format the card". I turned off the phone and reinserted the card and it still gives the same message. What do I do?

connect your bb to your computer. find the drive in "my computer" associated with your bb. right click on the drive go down to format and click on it.
Before you do this, make sure all the stuff saved on your media card is moved to a folder on your computer or it will erase everything when you do the format. I did this by creating a new folder on my desktop and moved all my saved stuff from the media card to the newly created folder on my desktop. When the format was complete...moved everything back over to the media card and your done! Hope this helps

Also, "turning off the phone" doesn't help. If you want to reset your blackberry you need to remove the battery.

Tried this, didn't work. As soon as I hit "Yes" it said "Media Card Format Failed." Tried battery pull. Double-checked to make sure card was installed properly. When I restarted the BB, I got this message:

Quote:
A Media Card has been inserted that contains encrypted content which will be unaccessible by this device. Please place the Media Card in the original device to access content.
The only thing I can think of is that last week I had to replace my BB b/c the OS suddenly decided to start asking me for a password and RIM and I could not get it to stop or remove the security from it. It was really weird. Somehow the security function from the last BB must have gotten onto my Media Card and now, with the new BB, I can't access it.

Shi*. Suggestions?

When I plug the phone into the laptop, it does not recognize it or pull it up as an external device (like a flash drive or an ext HD would).

Default Media card format failed on 8100

Sandisk 1GB card previously on a Nokia 6300. It works on the Nokia -- I can see the pictures and hear music. But when I install card on BB 8100, I can't see contents and even formatting fails. Any ideas?

Default Media card format failed on 8100

I tried a 128MB card that also worked on the Nokia 6300. This one works with the BB8100. Is there a limit to the size of the card? Here's my software info:
v4.2.1.107 (Platform 2.3.0.83)
Crypto kernel v3.8.4.34

Thanks.

You should be able to use up to a 2GB:
What type and size Media Card can I use in my device? - BlackBerryFAQ

I would backup the card. Try to format with your PC, then try to format with your BlackBerry. If all goes well move the files back.

When I press the menu key to format my media card, I don't get an option to format it. and when I connect to my computer, it doesn't recognize the phone as an added device.

It may be that you haven't enabled media card support.

Set Options>Media Card>Mass Storage Mode Support to "On" and "Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected" to either "On" or "Prompt." "Prompt" means you will get a dialog on the Pearl when you connect to a computer via USB asking if you want to enable mass storage mode, which allows the computer to see the media card as a drive.

I got it fixed. I updated the software to the latest (4.5) and the format option appeared.. must have been something wrong with my software.

Default Still cannot format media card

I think I just have a bad card that somehow works on my wife's Nokia 6300. But I tried it on my BB8100, my daughter's camera, and an older LG slider phone and they all can't recognize the card. I tried reformatting it on the Nokia but to no avail. Oh well, I'll just get one from Amazon for a few bucks.

Thanks.

There are 16 GB micro SD cards on sale on ebay in the mid-$60's after 10% off coupon that ebay has.

I'm using one in my Pearl 8130 (takes os 4.5.0.81 or greater to support 16 GB) and it works very well.

Sweet Jesus!

I have a 4GB now, so.... Wow, 4 times the storage. And at $60, it's not a bad deal.
