Any second thoughts about getting a Torch?
Please Login to Remove!
I have a Bold 9000 now, and am eligible for an upgrade to a Torch for free with a new 2 year contract. I use the phone for voice (what a surprise), lot's of e-mail, very few texts, and some surfing. I would be grandfathered into unlimited data, but I don't do much streaming on the 9000.
Do you as Torch users have and second thoughts about your getting one? I don't have to upgrade, but could wait until RIM comes out with their newer products, either Bold or Torch, but I'm certain I wouldn't be able to get one for free.
Any advice or comments?

Read through the threads in this section. That should answer the question.

Re: Any second thoughts about getting a Torch?
Based on what you've said, I would recommend waiting for the new Bold - you'll probably have a hard time with the Torch keyboard.
If you think that is not an issue, I would wait just to get the much improved processor on the new Torch/Bold/Curve coming out soon - I love mine - I wish I had a faster processor - I'm used to the keyboard now but I still wish the keyboard was more Bold 9000 or Curve like.
Be sure to try one out at the store before you commit. Good luck.

Re: Any second thoughts about getting a Torch?
Good call. I had the 9000 and when the new Bold comes out the torch is getting snuffed.

There is also a rumor of a Torch 2 in the works. Might want to read through the Rumors section as well.

Re: Any second thoughts about getting a Torch?
You can purchase a new 9800 at wally world for 97cents w/2yr contract or upgrade. Just another idea in-case your wanting to go the cheap route...
By the way I have not regretted going with the Torch!

While 97 cents is admittedly pretty cheap, the OP said he is eligible for a FREE upgrade with a 2 year contract. That's even cheaper, so since AT&T is doing it FREE, I guess its not a surprise that Walmart will do it for 97 cents, huh?

Re: Any second thoughts about getting a Torch?
I just joined the torch 9800 today, coming from the bold 9700. It sucks was my first impression - slow, touch sesitivity was lousy(maybe coz I was use to the misses iphone), did I mention slow? sluggishly slow doing everything including opening a photo from the memory card.
Hence on here to look for an updated OS. Will update in a month
Oh mines company owned so no regrets.

Re: Any second thoughts about getting a Torch?
I upgraded from a 9000 to a torch last fall. Missed the form factor of the 9000. I have finally gotten used to the smaller keyboard on the torch but I plan to switch back to the bold coming out this summer. It will have a faster processor and the original 9000 keyboard. It will also have a touch screen.

Re: Any second thoughts about getting a Torch?
Im waiting to the get the new Torch2 when it comes out in Q3 (hopefully it will happen in UK too). So far all reviews show it as a outstanding phone over my 9700 but you never know... Im looking very much for it, just wish you could use all browsing features like in the Playbook.

Re: Any second thoughts about getting a Torch?
Funny that, two months ago this same upgrade offer was $49.00 for the Torch I jumped on board because I had been watching it drop from the hundreds. No regrets here. The issues of form factor and size of keyboard I'm not having because I came to the Torch from the Storm1. I am used to the touch screen keyboard but for some things like quick messaging, having the back up tactile keyboard is is great. If the touch screen response is not to your liking slide over to the Storm threads and search up the steps for the touch screen speed mods. I did it on my Storm and it was really nice thereafter. I transfered the same settings to the Torch and am quite pleased. Assuming that you can get the phone for free, what's not to like? There will always be a piece of gear"just around the corner" that runs faster and jumps higher than what's in your pocket. If you can get something nice for free, now, to me seems like a no brainer. Just my .02

Re: Any second thoughts about getting a Torch?
The idea of getting the phone for free is pretty awesome, wish I had done that or when it became $49.00 -- oh well, life goes on. Since I purchased my Torch, I love it and am looking forward to the new one that will be coming out later this year.
In reading many of the responses, I have to agree with what has been said before. I am looking forward to having a phone with a faster processor and more space on the phone. I've had the phone for several months now and am getting more comfortable and use to the touch screen although I do use the keyboard for a majority of the typing.
I have two suggestions. First, wait until later this year when the newer phones come out. You may like them better. Secondly, I would go into one of the AT&T stores and use one of the Torchs in the store. If you know someone who has one, do the same thing. This might help you decide if you want it.

Re: Any second thoughts about getting a Torch?
I am just over three months into my 24 month contract, also on the third handset!
I have had 2nd hand Blackberry's for a few years & had less problems with them, they seem to go a month then start to play up.
This latest handset has started to 'freeze' for a few seconds, as I type, I miss some of the word out, I could not hang up on a call earlier today.
Wishing I hadn't bothered now........
