Default Curve Not Recognized

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone. Two questions about connecting a new Blackberry Curve.

1. My computer currently uses BB Desktop 4.1.1.19 (I think). My IT guy says I can't use anything over 4.2 because it will mess with our system. Whether or not he's right about that, will the Curve work with the old 4.1.1.19 software?

2. When I plug the Curve in and the drivers are installed, it's registering on my computer as a Disk Drive. Is that right? I've had other handhelds that didn't register like that.

Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

For the second question, do you have a media card installed in the BlackBerry? If so, then that may be why it shows as a drive on the computer.

Nope -- no media card. But I agree -- that would do it.

Curves and 8830's have issues with connecting to a lot of versions of DTM that are 4.1 or less. I don't see how they feel switching to 4.2 would mess with your settings as long you remember how synchronization was setup.

This is due to requiring newer USB drivers that come with the new DTM installations. If they use USB for some of their applications I can see how this would happen. I haven't ever had any issues but I don't use USB for anything else but my Berry.

edit** Also the background software loader in DTM is newer as well and some of the older versions won't recognize newer devices.
