First, have you looked at profiles > advanced > select one of the profiles (i.e. loud) and then edit, and then phone, and look at the volume setting? That may be your answer if it is set low. Set it to high, or whatever, save, and test.

Just got my 8830. Switched from regular mobile phone. I can't ever hear the phone ring. So far, I've never answered a call. It's frustrating how low the ringer is. I'm used to getting a ring for text messages and missed calls. Have no idea how to set us for these.
Came with very small useless guide.

For the rington you can goto profiles, advanced normal active _ phone then select your ringtone options from that screen, I have mine on high.

I have the same problem with low volume. I've selected a particular song for my ringtone, and have made all the adjustments described above (loud profiles, high volume) but as a ring tone the song plays at only about 1/3 the volume as the song plays, when played as a song.

Hi Heather. Welcome to BBF! Try a handy dandy search and you'll find many others with this same gripe and a few suggestions on how to manually fix. It stinks, but there are some ways to get loud ringers on the 8830. Try this one:
