Default Using SQL Tables to Rename BES Server

Please Login to Remove!

Greetings all--

BES 4.0.5 running on W2K2003, in a GroupWise 6.5 environment. Database on a separate SQL2000 server.

I've posted about this before, but when I was trying to set up a new server for our BES system, I accidentally mistyped the name of the server. There is apparently no way of correcting this without redoing the server from the ground up, so I can't do a knife-edge cut-over.

In the SQL table (serverconfig) for the BES database, both the old and new servers are listed (I have the new one unactive, because I only have one SRP). Can I bring down both servers, rename the entries in the SQL table for the old server (servername and machinename) to reflect the new server name, then bring up the new server and have it work?

Pardon my ignorance in SQL matters. The new server also runs other services and if I don't have to reformat, I'd just as soon not.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

rename the database names to the mistyped name you entered.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply! Just to clarify, do you mean the name OF the database, or the names IN the database--specifically, the entries in the table?

The former still has the same name as always, BESMgmt. The latter seems like a couple of seconds of typing.

Thanks again!

I'd just like to point out that this actually worked, and after a few moments of renaming work, I was able to bring up the new server with all users, licenses, etc right where they should be. Thank you everyone!
