Please Login to Remove!

Hai,

BB JDE4.2 have the file connection(JSR75), Memo list accessing, File System Registry, Launching BB PIM application with new, view, search operation, location API and more new APIs.

But i have some doubt that. Is it support on older device OS version(<4.0)?

The OS version must match the JDE version you are using to compile the application.

If the user has an older OS, and you compile with the new JDE, they must upgrade their OS in order to run the application.

csivaraj,

Welcome to the delimma we all face when a new version of OS is released. For the most part, you can build your code using the new JDE, but like you've noted if you are using specific features unique to the new version it will not run on the older devices.

We have mostly 4.0 devices but I've been using the 4.1 JDE because it was the most current (RIM gets kind of upset if you arent' running the current version and call for support). I haven't had any problems doing so, but I wasn't doing anything special that was unique to 4.1.

But now we have 4.2 and the new file system. I could really use this feature, but I never will be able to because of the older devices I have to deal with. Upgrading the devices to 4.2 is unlikely, as I'm still waiting to be able to upgrade the 4.0 devices to 4.1 (some carriers seem not to be in any hurry to release a new OS).

It would be nice if there was a "switch" in the JDE so that you could indicate a version of OS you intend to run on so it could let you know if you're using something that isn't supported.
