currently have the htc hero, but its a bit ######, keeps dieing on me.

therefore considering getting the bb 9700 bold. is this a wise move?

obviously i do not have the blackberry email package on my tarriff therefore is there any way of getting gmail pushed to the phone without paying a £5er a month to vodafone?

please help a possible future black berry owner.

Nope, you need a blackberry data plan for more than push email; including browsing and the use of many apps, including Facebook, google maps, windows live messenger to name a few.
