I want to separate my primary work email through BES and my gmail account. I have two folders and gmail goes to the internet email folder, but it also goes into my work BES email. Is there a way to separate or remove the gmail from my work BES email folder permanently so no gmail populates there?

Its not the BES folder.
Its the MESSAGES folder, which BES mail goes into only that folder.
Google for an app called Empower.

All messages go to the main messages folder and that cannot be changed since that is how the BB is designed. To get your BES email separated to its own folder, you would need a 3rd party app, Empower.

You need to make sure that your company allows you to install 3rd party apps and you also ned to know exactly what their IT policy allows.

As for having your personal mail on a BES connected BB, many of us do not recommend it since some email can be read by the company if they so desire.

So you are saying Empower will just redirect the email, work can still potentially see my personal email as it comes in and gets redirected. Am I understanding correctly?

Yep.

Did you read the two links I provided? The advise I always give is that if you need personal info (calendar, contacts, email and phone calls) while you ae at work, it is best to have your own personal device. this is especially true if the company is providing the BB connected to BES and is paying the bills.

To get the straight scoop on what your company BES Admins can and cannot see, you should speak to your BES Admin.

There is a way to change the folder issue at the server level see here;

This will give BES it's own folder and BIS will have it's own folder. They will both still go in the messages folder as well.
