Default Write your own Service Book entry?

Please Login to Remove!

I have a network unlocked 7100v which I am using on Virgin in the UK. However, Virgin do not have any blackberry support. Therefore I was really hoping to use it on straight GPRS (Virgin support it).

However, I can't do this, as unlike every other mobile phone you can't change all of the GPRS settings yourself (AFAIK).

Now...I've installed the development kit and I've managed to backup the service book entry of the Simulator 7100 and managed to restore it to my 'real' 7100v.

Now, I'm wondering if there is any way of changing the service book by poking about at the simulator and then restoring it to my real phone. Does anyone have any ideas?

As I understand it, the service book is in a protected part of the database, I'm going to have a go at reading the database backup file. Has anyone else had a go at this?

I think for the most part service books are used to talk to the rim relay. I don't think that you will get anytype of push email if Virgin doesn't have an agreement and link to the relay.

For straight up GPRS apps, you may want to just configure the proper APN in Options on the blackberry for Virgin and try something third party that doesn't require BES.

Either way you are going to be looking at third party products for everything you want to do.

I doubt messing with the service books is really going to get you anywhere.

I'm not really interested in push e-mail (well I know I can't have it!).

What I'd like to do is get web browsing working using Reqwireless Webviewer 4.0 personal.

I'm on version 4.0 of the software on my 7100, I've configured reqwireless and the TCP options in settings 100% correctly but still get a "Error - Could not connect to server" when trying to get to a web page (after a 30second delay).

Looking on these forums I'm not the only one!

Does reqwireless require mds? if it does, you pretty much have no options that will make it work. If it just goes straight out through the carrier apn, there should be somewhere to configure the carrier apn.

Maybe you need to setup your proxy configuration for the web services.

Can you send me a more detail instructions on how you create the service book?

The service books are specifically for communicating through the RIM Relay. Virgin has no connection from their network to the relay, therefore this whole service book conversation is moot.

I live in Mexico and Nextel has the services for roming users. So if I contract the data plan and I´m abel to write the service books in theory it should work.

In theory it's a good idea, except that as soon as you get on a data plan you are going to get the service books anyways. The service books are only for dealing with the relay, if you have a blackberry data plan, which is the only way you are going to get to the relay, you will have the service books.

Mexico has no BB services, but it has data services. If I buy independently the data services I can get the NXTL in my BB but no services thats the problem.

If you can write a service book for yourself - and get the BB to recognise and use it you should try using it with the providers internet access APN.

Blackberry seems to be network agnostic - as long as you can route to srp.eu.blackberry.net for example in Europe you should be able to use full BB services.

Bear in mind however the cost...
