It seems that as soon as I get into work, the battery on my curve getsw sucked down to nothing. We have Wi-Fi and I have configured the connection, but within an hour my battery is empty. This is the only place it happens - doesn't happen at home. Any ideas what's up?

Maybe the beacon interval in the WiFi router you are connecting to is set to a high number. For example, when I was messing with the settings on mine a while ago, and some recommended upping the interval from 50 to 100, I noticed a decrease in battery life. I believe is because the phone is communicating with the router constantly.

Actually, it's the other way around. Default is 100 and it was recommended to reduce it to 50. It ate my battery very quickly. I put it back to 100 and my battery life was good again. if tthat's the case at your work, then unless you can get your IT dept to change it, you are stuck with it.

Are you sure? Because when I switched mine to 100 the battery went fairly fast and I could tell the connection arrows were going pretty crazy while on a call. When I put it back to 50 the battery was fine, I've had it at 50 for a while now.

Edit: you know what? You're right. I even posted in a thread a while back (during one of the bad UMA outages) where actually you and I were talking about DD-WRT settings and we both said that 50 was eating the battery too fast and I even said that 75 was a compromise and 100 would be best. Why the hell do I have it set to 50 then? LOL....yet my battery is fine.

I tried mine at 50 again a while back and it ate the battery. I have it at 90 right now. 100ms is default. I've noticed no difference in 50 and 100 except for the battery life.

Could it be that the OP's WiFi at work isn't causing the battery drain at all? Weak coverage issues and the radio keeps "looking" for a signal could be the one thing he might have missed. Just speculating...

Thanks for the information, all. It's amazing how quickly the battery goes when I'm here at work. I've traveled a lot to other countries where the signal isn't that great, but the battery doesn't drain like it does here at work. I'll do some experimenting and let everyone know if I find something out. Thanks again.

After doing a little testing it seems that my BB was jumping between 4 wi-fi access points throughout the facility (MY office is situated in wi-fi hell) and also 2 cell service providers (T-Mobile and I Wireless). Only way to solve it was to shut wi-fi down while in the office.
