Yes it's a very good idea. But really you won't be disappointed, itxxx8217;s a great BB and it has a lot of great features. One being that you wonxxx8217;t have to reboot it every few hours. Oh and Welcome aboard...

I left 3 Treo 600s and a 650 in the dust 3-4 years ago. Best move I ever made.

That being said, however, the BB is not for everyone. You need to do your homework and make sure it does what you need it to do. Read the FAQs here and over at blackberryforums.com. Will give you a wealth of info and insight. And ask questions, but don't forget to search first!

I use mine as a cell phone, email device and PIM (calender and contacts). Nothing fancy. Very little surfing, no music. (I have an iPod for that when I travel) No streaming video, etc. Does what I need it to do.

I did the exact same thing about a year ago (went from Treo 650 to BB 8830). I've been very happy with the change; I used the Treo for a couple of years, but the OS was just too unstable.

There are only a couple of things that I miss since I made the switch: (1) the Web browser on the Treo was better, and (2) DataViz "Documents to Go" is not available for BB. It apparently will be available for the BB shortly, but only for BES (not BIS, which I use). I am using DocHawk on my BB, but it's just not as good as Documents to Go, at least in my opinion.

Aside from those two issues, I am happy with the BB 8830 and haven't looked back. As suggested, do your homework and make sure the 8830 does everything you want it to do. If it meets your needs, I think you'll be happy with it.

Good luck.

BES is Blackberry Enterprise Server for corporate email users. BIS is Blackberry Internet Server for personal users.

Please read the FAQ!!!!!!!!!!! That will answer many of your questions and will get you a better response on here as well. This is all explained there.

I didn't use the Treo browser that much and don't use the two on the BB all that much, but it always does what i need it to do.

It was so nice getting away from the touch-screen thing, one of great reasons to go to Blackberry!

I used a 650 for about 3 years and liked it. Main reason I got the 8830 was because the 650 would not work with my new Ford Edge that has Sync.

Now that I am used to it, I like it much better than the 650. Smaller and lighter, better messaging, email and web and I like Verizon VZ Navigator.

The Desktop Manager does a much better job of syncronizing to MS Outlook. I was always having problems syncing my Treo. The only thing I miss is the camera.

I just switched over from a Treo650 (2 1/2 years) and a 755p that I had for 6 weeks. The calender function and task function of the Palm are light years ahead of the BB's especially if you used Datebk6. I miss assigning different applications to the buttons. I love the trackball and don't miss the stylus. The BB's phone is a quantum leap ahead of the Treo's. The web browser in the BB is better. It seems you have to work a lot harder on the BB to do anything. I also have a Mac...Palm is a lot more user friendly and I've got to qualify that by saying I skipped PocketMac and upgraded my previous version of MarkSpace. To sum in up, the hardware is great but the software will break into the 21st century any day now. I won't be looking back.

I, too, switched from the Treo 650 to the BB 8830, and agree with the comments made by my colleagues; it is just so much better for virtually all types of business uses. Good luck with the new phone.

I have neighbor who already owns a 8830, his office has lots of its features turned off, however the calandar seems like it takes more steps to use. My Treo is so easy to move from day to day and view to view. Is there an easier way to do this with the BB?

I switched from the treo 700 (1 yr) to the 8830 about 6 mos ago. When I had my treo I had to reset the thing multiple times a day, the email took forever, 3rd part apps would crash the device, touch screen would respond so slow it would freeze the device in addition to many other annoying things. You get almost none of that with the blackberry. All I can say is that I prefer the 8830 hands down to the treo.

I had the Treo 600, 650, 680, and 750. Then I got back to Blackberrys and I couldn't be happier. The one thing the Palm-OS Treo has going for it is threaded SMS. Nobody does texting like Palm. Blackberry is good at it, but Palm's Treo (not Windows Mobile) is the gold standard in texting.
