Cool with IP-Relay....

There also other IP relay service called SIP-relay just add it to your AIM list as 'siprelay' that it.

I used Yak-on with AIM, and it works great quick response.

I downloaded the app but it fails to run with this message:

"Error starting IPRelay: module 'net_rim_bb_attachment' not found."

I checked the Applications option and looked at the modules for the IP-relay app and it is not there. Any ideas?

I use 7290 BB with v4.0.2.49.

Run your BlackBerry Desktop Manager, then click Application Loader and make sure that the "Attachment" module is installed on your BlackBerry. This will also give you the added benifit of allowing you to view attachments with your device.

If you do not see that module, I also recommend that you download and install OS 4.1 for your BlackBerry:

MCI IP-Relay is faster because your typing is transmitted realtime, word-at-a-time -- just like a real TTY.

With AIM, you have to hit Enter to transmit. That means less waiting for the other end to speak.

There is a little difference time wise but relay calls take long anyway. The big difference (if you have multiple calls to make) is that the ip-relay programs eats up you battery quick in comparison to using AIM for your calls. I only use the relay if I'm calling a company for whatever the issue but they have to wait and take the call either way no matter what the time issue is...so if I have to grunt and bear the whole relay experience, why shouldnt they (if using AIM)

Each typed word is transmitted as a separate packet, so that does eat up a lot of battery life. The good news is that you can multitask multiple relay programs simultaneously and make 2 phone calls from your BlackBerry at the same time. (You use Alt+Esc to multitask between software programs -- switch between IP-Relay and AIM). But that's hard to pay attention to IP-Relay calls running in the background, and there is no "Vibrate on GA" feature in the IP-Relay program compared to AIM which can vibrate upon all incoming messages.
