the best GPS Puck and GPS Software for an 8700g with OS 4.5. That's assuming my phone can even utilize one. I would like to speak the address to go to and get voice turn by turn directions.

Not asking for a lot, heh!

Ken

I have Bluetooth 1.1 according to the specs listed in the About info for my phone, although web reviews say it supports 2.0.
I am reviewing this post, but still looking for real world experiences:

I am not sure that any apps for the BB allow you to speak your address to control the gps and get vocal turn-by-turn directions. But I could be wrong.

I have the Freedom 2000. While I like its size, it has a quirk - it goes into standby mode if it does not get a "signal" from the BB gps app - so while google maps mobile works, I need to run some other gps app so that google stays active. The work around is for me to run BBmaps or some other gps app.

After that, there are a variety of gps navigation programs and frankly, if you read discussions of the specific apps, you will find as many opinions. Everyone has a favorite and someone else will pan that favorite. So the advice is generally to give them each a try and see what you like.

At a basic level, Google maps and BBmaps will provide WRITTEN directions for addresses. Neither will speak the results.

Most require DATA plans for navigation directions.

Thanks FF2,

Do you use it on the 8700 or the 8830 you list? My main concern is if my 8700Bluetooth Version 1.1 will take any puck. I emailed a couple companies that sell pucks on this, including the Freedom. No reply yet. Was hoping someone had one on an 8700g with Bluetooth 1.1. I figured voice was a long shot.

That works with CBW. I can download and use amAze with no GPS. But not sure when I try to pair a puck and use with CBW on EDGE what will happen. May be to slow while driving at highway speeds.

Anyone have experience with this setup?

Shouldn't be any different than any other BB using GPS and connected via EDGE. My 8310 does just fine. EDGE isn't an issue.

Thanks for the reply, but I bought an 8900 and am using telenav and amAze with the 8900 gps. Couldn't see spending 80.00 on a puck when for 120.00 more I get gps and a new phine.
