Default Tour: First Impressions

Please Login to Remove!

Stopped by Verizon and convinced one of the sales guys to bring out a Tour and let me play with it a bit.

Impressions:
  1. Coming from an 8703e, I prefer to have spaces between the keys; the keyboard feels cramped to me
  2. Feels and looks very small
  3. It was lighter than I expected - I expected it to be more hefty like the Storm
  4. Trackball is quite deeply recessed
  5. Rubberized finish is great
  6. Battery door looks stupid, stupid, stupid
  7. Screen is amazingly gorgeous
  8. Performance seems snappy
  9. Camera quality is great and doesn't seem to lag like the (terminally pathetic) Storm camera
  10. The chrome bezel on the unit I palmed was very dark, almost to the point where it didn't look like chrome/metallic
  11. No, I didn't check the OS version
  12. Did I mention that the battery door looks stupid?
For the first time, I wish it had Wi-Fi, as Verizon's data service ironically isn't so great where I live.

Thank you for sharing. Big adjustment from an 8703.

I had a Storm for 29 days and returned it. Very disappointing experience.

Looking forward to the Tour.

But frankly, I'd happily keep my 8703e because it gets the jobs I need done so well, if only the wheel weren't getting erratic on me. But after dropping it more than 100x, without about 25 of those being drop kicks across parking lots, who can complain?

I suspect the Tour won't be nearly as tough - so I'm going to get one of those prophylactics for it!

Tour has much more capacity a more advanced OS. To me, this is an easy decision. I usually put a rubber skin around for protection and grip

Yeah - I had that capacity and more advanced OS on my Storm.

When I'm really honest with myself, it didn't help me get anything done quicker or better - the only advantages were the larger screen (loved that screen) and the better browser, which was nice, but not core to how I use my BB.

95% of what I do is mail, address book, calender and phone. The 8703e does those with flying colors.

Aha - just remembered one core advantage to 4.7x - Japanese! Finally! This is important to me. Just hope they have text entry, and not just display enabled!

Nope - I am out of options.

My 8703e is kaput and trying to use AT&T in San Diego would be the worst torture imaginable (it's horrible here).

Just figured out another disadvantage of the Tour - I can't use it as a lethal weapon in a street fight like my 8703e - that 8703e is built like a battle tank!

Trying to whack someone with a Tour with one of those rubbers wrapped around it isn't going to help win any fights!

Thumbs up Love It!

OS is 4.7, btw. So far ALL software for me is running well. I had some concern about Docs to Go, but all is well. Pandora, Viigo, BB Apps., Live Search, all the Google mobile apps are working well. This thing is blazing fast. I don't know about games because I don't play them!

Migrated my stuff from 8830 beautifully, including email accounts. Just had to validate them with my pass word.

I decided against the Storm in January and I am glad I waited. First time posting and I thank you for all the enormous help you have all been.

I didn't buy one (yet) but I went to the vzw store and played with one for quite a long time. At first I thought the keys would be hard to use but after I used it for a while I got used to it. Love the display. And it seems faster than my 8330. One reason I didn't get it yet is apps.

YouTube App seems to hang. Trying to accept the terms of service, but it won't let me highlight the Accept button. :(

I am up and running and I am VERY happy!

Busy sorting out all the new VZW stuff on the screen and where to put it all. Used to 4 rows of icons on my Curve and now 3 rows. I used to have only what fit on the screen without scrolling (folders)

Now I will adjust. Can't fit it all in 18 icons!

New York Times and Yankees shortcuts don't work. Not sure why yet. Still looking.

The keyboard is too close together for me, I prefer the 8330 keyboard, but I will deal.
Otherwise I am happy with it so far.

Several apps I had to try two times to get them to load, but they did eventually.

OUCH!! That is OK. I can take it as well as I can dish it out.

But seriously, did you two get the BoSox Icon to work? Or has anyone else tried another MLB icon?

Padres icon doesn't work either. Didn't work on Storm either. Guess MLB isn't 4.7 compatible yet?

I was on BlackBerry App World and there are reviews on there saying the icons work on the Storm, yet I read elsewhere that they don't.

I guess we just have to wait.
