Default Great Site!!!

Please Login to Remove!

I am new here and read a lot about the bb 8310. I want to update my BB from 4.2 to 4.5. I just got a few question before I will proceed to any update.

1. What is the worst thing that will happen to the BB if there is a error/mistake in the process of updating?

2. Do I need to remove my SD card before doing the updating?

3. Which is better version? .81 or .99

4. I heard that if I update my BB into either .81 or .99 the gps will going to disappear. Is that true?

5. will all my info (ringtone, contacts, pictures etc..) that was there will not be erase?

Sorry if I ask a lot of question. Maybe all of my question was being answered already. I'm just trying to make sure that I'm doing it the right way.

Anyway, this is an awesome site.

Thank you,
Jenny

Welcome to the forums, Jenny!

Clevebb answered all of your questions. However with #5, the upgrade process creates a backup of your data/settings and restores them once the new OS has been installed. You should not lose anything.

It is best to do a backup before updating the OS, just in case any issues arise.

As far as the micro sd card thing goes. Back up all pics. Videos. Songs. And anything else you have on the card onto your computer and after you update your bb put the card in and reformat it then put all your stuff back on it. If this is not done you can encounter errors when looking at your pictures and such

Thank you all guys for the info. I'm just a bit scared doing things like that. I guess with all the people like you guys in here, I will have the guts to do it.
Anyway, I already got the DM version 4.7 and I dont have the OS version .99 where can I download it?

Thank you,
Jenny

How big of Sd card can I put in this phone? I was thinking that if I put more than 2 GB my phone might go slower? Which version of DM is the best to use?

Thank you,
Jenny

If you go to the options app. your phone then go down to "status" It will tell you all of the free space and the space that is total on your phone. I am running a 2GB in my phone an I think it could be to small at the moment but if I have to update then so be it. But if you know that you are going to be putting more apps or your gonna use it as your digital camera or something like that then I would suggest to go with a bigger card.

You're good up to that point. Next connect your device to your PC via the USB cable and launch DM. It should prompt you to upgrade.

The one with a wrench or tool. It would say either options or settings. Options is what mine says. It may be different for each carrier.

File Free is on the status screen

File total will not be on that screen...

For both File Free and File Total, on your homescreen, press ALT + SHIFT + H, all three keys at the same time.
