Default Bes server in one country - Blackberry users in another country - No extra charge??!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
We have a BES server with Vodafone Ireland and Blackberry users with Vodafone UK. Vodafone UK and Ireland are like two seperate companies. We have seperate accounts with each etc.

I have just spoken to V.UK and they said that the cost per month for a Blackberry is 28 pounds and that there is no extra charge for using a server located in Ireland. Does this sound correct to you guys? I would have thought we would have had to pay an international connection fee or something.

Yes, it sounds correct.
The BES doesn't care what wireless carrier you use. As long as the Enterprise BlackBerry Data Plan is provisioned properly on the phone, then you can activate on any BES you wish.

That sounds similar to users from the US going to Canada. I believe they get charged extra for international data usage, but I can't say that's the same with UK carriers.

The BB may be on the BES, but you're still using the cell towers to transmit data back and forth. Which, outside of your country may be considered "international roaming."

Only time you have to pay a data fee is when the end-user leaves their home roaming zone.

Lets say the user is American:

At home in the USA, BES access only costs the BES plan price, even tho the server is located in Ireland.

Should the user leave the USA and say go to Ireland to visit the office there, the user will incur roaming charges in addition to the BES plan price (even tho he/she maybe standing right beside the BES server...)

That's the nature of cellular networks.
