I no you don't like newbie questions, but I need some info. I have a new pearl and will be traveling to Florida in three weeks. What do I need or what kind of software do I need to use my pearl as a gps unit on my trip. I would like it to give me directions or let me put in an address and locate the location. Can anyone please help me.

The pearl does not have built in GPS, so you need more than software.
You are going to need a GPS reciever....
Search for that, there are some threads about it

As aleady stated, you need a receiver. Look at globalsat BT-359 for example. That together with BBMaps, for example, will show your position on the map. If you need more, look at the apps discussed here on the forum (telenav, wayfinder...)
