I do not have a lot of experience with BES. I have a client running BES 4.1.6 MR4 (Rollup) Bundle 105 and Exchange 2003, on separate servers. They are experiencing the problem with folder redirection being turned off intermittently and it's driving the affected managers crazy. I would like to implement the solution with the least potential adverse impact on the customer, which from my research appears to be to apply MR7 and not SP7. Can I safely install MR7 with low risk of creating more problems than the one described? Installing the full SP7 looks to be a lot more risky. Thanks for any suggestions or advice on this matter.

Backup the database first as it contains all the info on BES

MR7 is an easy install, log in as BESAdmin on the server and install the MR and reboot at end.

User will not get emails until it has finished updating.

SP7 is just about the same and hardly ever breaks the server.

Thanks for your advice, knottyrope. Would it be more of a risk to the stability of the BES operation if I were to do SP7 rather than MR7? I just want to fix the current problem without causing further disruption.

both will take about the same time.

a SP will upgrade the database so it might seem more risky.

I have done almost every SP and MR on 4.x and never had issue with installing them.

SP7 and latest MR is what RIM would suggest you be on.
