Hi there,

I have a Curve 8520, which I've had for round about a month or two now.
I'm experiencing problems with my Blackberry Desktop Manager, however, and wonder if some of you out there know what can be done to fix it?

I want to try load some songs onto my device, so I plug it in, then go into the Blackberry Desktop Device program. When I go into the main menu, I click on the Media icon, and then click on "Launch" in Media Manager, and normally it would just open up and I'd be fine from there. But recently, when I do click on the icon, a pop-up page comes up saying, "Runtime Error", and I'm not able to get into the manager program.
I've tried re-installing it, but to no avail.

Please let me know if there's a way to fix this problem, it's really fustrating! It won't let me go into the program.

What did you do to the device prior to this happening?

1st solution, with the device on, pull the battery for 30-60 seconds, reinsert and let the device reboot. Does this fix it?

No? then the next solution would be delete DM and reinstall the latest version from the RIM website.

I haven't done anything to my device that could have caused this problem (I think).

I tried taking the battery out, but it didn't work. RIM stands for Research in Motion, right?

What have you done - did you instal a theme or an app, change settings, delete files, droopped it, got it wet?

I have dropped it once...maybe a week or two ago. I did accidentally knock over my water bottle which was on my desk, and my cell was next to it, but it didn't get really wet. I'm going to try download the update of DM. If it still doesn't work, should I get it checked out at Vodacom?

Is the runtime error coming up on your pc? Sounds like a Windows error. Please tell me you're not using Vista on your computer. I had nothing but troubles with Vista. Windows XP (SP 3) worked well, and Windows 7 (both 32- and 64-bit) works well too. Vista, on the other hand, was nothing but trouble for me.

Normally I'm a Mac user, but I keep a ThinkPad around too.

Yup, it was on my pc. I'm using Windows 7, thank goodness!

I eventually un-intstalled it, then re-installed it, and now it works fine. Hope I don't have to do this every couple of months! It's a pain!
Oh, and I tried downloading the v6 of Desktop Manager, but I had trouble trying to get it to download properly...maybe in a month or so I'll try again. Our download speed is very slow, so that may be a problem.
