First a Very Happy New Year to all in Blackberry Forums.

Does anyone know if there is a need to have WI-FI fon the Tour? I understand since there isn't sufficient broadband as yet, there may not be or that VZN needs to find a way to make more money on additional models of blackberry? Which is correct? Also can we upgrade without costs?

I don't quite understand what your asking but a Tour 2 with wi-fi is rumoured for early-mid next yr.

Appreciate the update. Just need to know if VZN is looking to add to it's coffers with WI-FI for the Tour. I thought when I purchased it it would have WI-FI.

I'm still confused...lol. Ok I'll try my best to put some info out there that might answer your questions. Yes there is rumored to be a tour2 coming out which has wifi capability. The original tour1 does not have wifi. Now as far as the connectivity with verizon I have no problem nor heard of any real complaints on their 3G speed connection in which you browse the internet from your tour1 or tour2. I have a storm2 which has wifi and does come in handy for me as its a tad faster...not incredibly faster but just a little noticeable from what I can tell. But I like the fact that I can be on the phone and still use the internet if its connected to wifi.

If you want to talk about 3G issues check into att. I had att and was disgusted at how slow their network is. I jumped ship pretty fast. I begged my sister to not get an iphone because of this. So let's just put it this way....when she has a 3G connection her speeds are FAST. But she hardly ever has an actual 3G connection. Usually just the slower connection...I think its called edge which is kinda horrible. But at least you can talk on the phone and surf the web at the same time.

But like I said I'm pleased with verizon's 3G especially when compared to att's.

Can't add WiFi to a BB device that doesn't have it already. The Tour2 is rumored to have WiFi however.

I agree with twinglock40z. WiFi might make surfing a bit faster, but that is about all. A negative is it tends to drain the battery quicker if you leave it o all the time. Works great in an area where you have little or no data connectivity.

I suppose I can wait for the new upgrade to BB's OS. Speeding up the OS improves much for the system.
