Well the fatal error can appear as a result of three different causes,
Cause 1
There is no direct connection to a USB port on the computer.
Resolution 1
Confirm that the USB cable is not plugged into an intermediary device including the following items:
•USB hub
•USB extension cable
•Laptop docking station
•Port in the front of the computer being used

Cause 2
Interference has occurred with certain application installation processes.
Resolution 2
Confirm that BlackBerry Desktop Manager can detect the BlackBerry smartphone.

1.In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, select Options > Connection Settings.
2.In the Connection Settings window, click Detect.

If the BlackBerry smartphone is detected, complete the following steps:
1.In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click the Application Loader icon.
2.In the Application Loader Wizard window, click Next.
3.If the BlackBerry smartphone is password-protected, type the password and click Next.
4.Select the applications to be installed on the BlackBerry smartphone. Click Next.
5.Click Advanced.
6.Select the Erase all currently installed applications check box. Click Next.
7.Confirm that Do not automatically back up and restore the handheld application data during the loading process is selected.
8.Click Finish.

If the BlackBerry smartphone is not detected, disconnect the Blackberry smartphone. Perform each of the following steps, and connect the BlackBerry smartphone following each step. If the BlackBerry smartphone is not detected following a step, disconnect it before performing the next step:

4.Right-click the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Root Hub, and select Properties.
5.Click the Power Management tab.
6.Clear the Allow computer to turn off this device check box. Click OK.
2.If other USB devices (for example, a mouse or camera) are plugged into USB ports on the PC, temporarily disconnect them and connect the BlackBerry smartphone to a USB port that was working previously.
3.Verify that there is a direct USB connection to the computer, as discussed in Resolution 1 above..
4.Disable any other synchronization software, anti-virus software, or firewall programs that might be running.
5.Uninstall and re-install the USB Root Hubs on the PC:
1.In Windows Device Manager from step 1, expand the list for Universal Serial Bus Controllers
2.Select the first USB Root Hub. Right-click and select Uninstall.
3.Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the rest of the USB Root Hubs.
4.Restart the computer. On reboot, Windows will detect and reinstall the USB Root hubs.

Cause 3
There is power dissipation as a result of the battery having been removed from BlackBerry smartphone prior to application installation.
Resolution 3
Confirm that a battery is properly inserted into the BlackBerry smartphone before following the Resolution 2 above.
