There are so many things wrong in this story I don't where to start...

I can see where 'maybe' each parent could think the other one brought in the baby. But... how can parents of a 7 month and 2 year old sleep til Noon and 2 PM??

Who is caring for the 2 year old while these parents are sleeping half the day?
Wouldn't you think the father would have checked on the baby when he got up if he was the first one up?
Wouldn't you think he would have noticed the baby in the car seat when he got in to drive to the gym?

IANAL but wouldn't you think this might be criminal negligence at least? No matter they didn't willfully cause her death.

This is very sad, but I don't understand the prosecutor's reasoning.
