Thanks Wilbuur - I'm resisting the hard reset for now since I believe that wipes all the data? But if I try that I might also try an OS upgrade. The annoying thing is not knowing what's causing it. Is it the phone? The cable? My computer? The location where I am right now? I've talked to the AT&T guy and he's totally stumped.

Yes, tethering with the Bold has been an adventure. I've also experienced some long outages where I get "Error 718" (the remote computer is not responding). One was two hours, one was five hours. I'd really like to get one of the 3G cards for the computer so it'll be faster (the Bold won't tether on 3G) and more reliable, but having to shell out $60/month to do it AND have to sign a 2-year contract just isn't palatable.

I tried reinstalling Communication Manager and Desktop Manager - no luck. Five minutes of connection, then the computer won't even acknowledge the phone anymore.
