Default Push content without a BES server?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everybody!

I'm looking for a good way to push RSS data (and possibly some other proprietary data) to the BlackBerry 7100t. The catch: can it be down without BES? Browser channel push and cache push seem to require a BES server (which makes sense, I guess.)

Could I write a J2ME app that somehow listens for push data without a BES server? Perhaps by listening for specially crafted email messages (and then hiding them from the user)? Or is there a better way?

Failing that, some sort of scheduled pull would work too. Are there any existing apps that periodically update a user-specified HTML/WML page?

And, a related question, are there any good cheap/free rss readers that use push or scheduled pull updates (so that I can read my news feeds even when I have no service)?

Thanks a lot for any help!
