Philosophically I do love the concept of open source. But in the real world I've always had the best user experience with proprietary/closed systems. Mac OSX, Microsoft Windows and the Office Suite, etc. They simply kick the crap out of Linux and Open Office.

That's because there is a profit motive behind the production of the products. While you might find some good free stuff out there, you're never going to consistently find "Open Source" stuff to be of higher quality than commercial offerings. That's just the way it goes - and should go, IMHO.
I'm an Apple "fan" too ... at least for the handhelds. I have an iPod Touch (4G). Slick device. I don't think I'll go to the iPhone on Verizon just yet, though ... I'm going to give this BB a shot for awhile. They're both nice devices. The BB seems a bit more durable than an iPhone to me. At-least that's the way I'll play it for now.
