Exactly, I can see the same issue here. For managing WM devices you must have either Exchange 2007 SP1 - then it's ok to lock down the devices.
But for other devices, like iPhone ... it will be a problem.

Actually, with the iPhone 2.0 software coming with the SDK, Apple is providing full activesync support as well as admin software so you can lock it down and do remote wipes as well.
