Shorter battery life isn't all that unexpected, however. Faster processor, better graphics, etc. all consume more power.

And until battery technology can catch up to consumer demands, manufacturers and mobile user needs, you aren't going to see it get much better. Consumers want more capability, thinner, lighter, faster, sharper devices. Battery technology just isn't there yet to keep up.
Don't blame the device manufacture, blame the laws of physics and consumer demands that drive the market. There has to be a trade off somewhere.
