Just to clarify I don't see the new operating system having any benefit in changing the battery life.

Can someone explain how to know if the pouch is causing a problem. As soon as I slip my BB into the pouch the screen goes off? That is normal but would have thought pouch wouldn't do that if defective. PS. I am on my second 8900 and 2nd no better then first in battery life.
