I imagine it depends on whether you're using UMA. On my BB with wi-fi everything is tunnelled via the carrier - so I imagine they're measuring usage....

Just acquired an 8820 which has worked fine for a few weeks but after charging the battery overnight, the device starts runs for a few seconds then dies and restarts.

Not sure if this is relevant to the UMA problem. Since UMA is a form of IP tunneling, is it possible the router/firewall is not set up to accept packets via the port used for UMA?
